The complex and protracted civil war which has been changing in nature, scope leadership and intensity started all the way in 1986 when the NRM/A captured power from the military government of the late Geneal Tito Okello Lutwa. The military had also overthrown the Obote II government which was in power between 1980 – 1985. they were widely acused of gross violation of human rights in uganda. The rebellion has now resulted into humanitarian crisis with over 1,500,000 people living in the internally Displaced Peoples Camp IDPCs in appaling unhygienic conditions without clean water, food and proper education for children. The rebels activities have led to the perpetual suffering of civilians especially women and children. The rebel's method of recruitment has been mostly through forceful abduction mostly of young children aged 9 – 18 years who are later exposed to harsh induction processes by the rebel leaders.\\ The nearly 20 years war in northern Uganda has had also a far reaching consequences on the socio-economic and political development of Uganda. This conflict has led to killing of hundreds and internally displaced over 1,500,000 people in the districts of Gulu, Kitgum, Pader, Lira, Katakwi and Soroti. After almost 20 years of fighting it has become apparent that neither the Government nor LRA can outclaim outright military victory. Its regional dimension of a proxy war between Uganda and Sudan makes it hard to resolve and is a threat to national and regional peace and security.\\ \\ By Dickson Ochiti Olweny\\ \\ Unyama IDP Camp\\ \\ [[dickson_student|more journals by Dickson.......]]|
